Scirocco Enterprises supplies all sizes of aggregate for the building and construction industry. Two dedicated Crushing Plants have a combined output in excess of 2000 metric tonnes per day. An extensive range of aggregates can be altered to cater to individual requirements. Our range of aggregates covers quarry sand, chippings, concrete stones as well as all types of crusher run for base course. Our aggregates have been utilized for road construction projects in and around Lusaka as well as major civil works. We supply contractors and block manufacturers around Lusaka with all sizes of aggregates.

Block Making

Scirocco Enterprises Ltd's objective is to provide the HIGHEST STANDARDS in Blocks for the Construction industry. A second static machine was installed in May 2008 and plans are under way to set up a third one before the end of the year. This will ensure increased capacity, better quality and a broader range of products. We will start manufacturing paving bricks to international standards in a range of colours and designs. Our blocks conform to and exceed all local standards and our continued efforts at improvements ensure a range of products that will satisfy the most demanding specifications.

Concrete

Scirocco Enterprises Limited supplied ready mixed concrete for the Lusaka market and other major projects in Lusaka. We offer four standard grades with mix design being produced to suit individual needs. We have been involved in the major construction projects in the last few years and are the biggest supplier of concrete in the country.

Our standard grades are as follows:-
15 MPA, 20 MPA, 25 MPA, 30 MPA
We also have the capability to do on site batching anywhere there is demand for large enough projects.

Cement

Scirocco Enterprises is only the second company to manufacture cement in Zambia. Our plant began production of the ‘AMAKA’ Brand Ordinary Portland Cement in December 2005. Initial production was 100 metric tonnes per day and has increased to 300. The production will go toward satisfying our own demand for cement in the manufacture of concrete blocks and ready mixed concrete with the surplus being sold on the local market. Cement will be sold in 50kg bags or delivered in bulk to customers’ silos. Amaka Brand cement exceeds the standards set out by the Zambia bureau of standards with average 28 day compressive strength values of 65 MPA. This means that less cement can be used to attain desired strengths and quicker demoulding for increased mould availabilities.

Building & Construction

Our construction division specializes in industrial and commercial buildings. Scirocco Enterprises is registered with the National Council for Construction with a grade 1 in the General civil works category (C). The company has recently completed the civil works for the Munali Nickel mine in the Mazabuka district. Works included all the concrete and civil works for the process plant.

Copper Mining

Scirocco Enterprises operate a copper mine East of Lusaka in the Chongwe area. It is a small deposit consisting primarily of oxide ores. The ore is mined, graded and sorted and sold to mining companies for processing. In Late 2007, the company acquired a much bigger deposit in the same area. An environmental impact assessment is being carried out with a view to setting up a processing plant in order to produce cathode and/or blister copper. Mining operations will begin and the setting up of the process plant will be started as soon as all statutory requirements are in place.

It is estimated that the mine has 20.000 tonnes of contained copper and further exploration work is being carried out to better quantify the reserves and establish the properties of the ore for optimum production. Expectations are the deposit will prove to be bigger than the documented figures thereby making the prospect more attractive for mining and processing.

Precast Concrete

Scirocco Enterprises has invested in a new system for precast concrete panels and structures. The wafflecrete system is an innovative product that is used for the construction of a variety of structures ranging from low cost simple dwellings to multi storey structures including apartment, hotels, parking structures and other commercial and industrial buildings. The system relies on waffle like ribs to give the tensile strengths required whilst saving on the concrete and steel requirements.

Ease of installation and the speed at which projects can be accomplished will be an added advantage in addition to the savings in material and manpower required. The system is versatile and will be utilized to help ease the housing crisis experienced in the country. This operation is underway and it is expected that the first structures will be erected in January 2009. Panels will be available to be sold separately for use in suspended slabs instead of insitu concrete. The company will be in a position to work with individual clients to design, erect and handover turnkey projects in record time.

Transport

Our fleet consists of 50 trucks as of May 2008 and grows according to demand. Special requirements can be catered for if enough time is given to mobilize. The trucks are tracked by satellite in real time and are monitored around the clock. This feature gives assurances that cargo can be traced and security is enhanced especially with valuable or sensitive cargo. All trucks are designed for on highway and offroad haulage for bulk materials.

Real Estate & Property Development

With the arrival of the precast building system in 2009, Scirocco Enterprises will begin a program of real estate developments in the Lusaka area. The company has acquired prime land in the Lusaka area for the development of a shopping centre, office blocks and other amenities. Construction will commence as soon as plans are finalized and approval obtained from the local authorities. With the new building system, construction will be quick and a distinctive building style will be introduced in Zambia. Other land for residential developments has been purchased and this will begin in the first part of 2009. On plan is a townhouse complex and some semi detached units for letting.

Mining

Scirocco Enterprises provides Mining Quarrying and Crushing services throughout Zambia. We have mobile drills and compressors for volume blasting operations and our fleet of excavators, dump trucks and loaders is state of the art.

The company has just signed a contract with Maamba coal mine for the mining of coal. Maamba is Zambia’s first and biggest coal mine and is owned by the government through ZCCM IH.
